Correct calculation of composite mesh consumption helps not to overpay for extra rolls and not to stop work due to lack of fabric. Below is a clear methodology: from the area of the structure to the number of cards and rolls for a specific format. You can choose a standard size for your calculation in eTHYZ Composite Mesh Catalogue.

What makes up the mesh consumption

The final consumption of the mesh is not just the area of the floor or masonry. The calculation includes three components:

  • Reinforcement area — "clean" area of the base (screed, path, blind area) or the total length of masonry joints multiplied by the width of the tape.
  • Overlap (lane overlap) — adjacent canvases are laid overlapping, so the useful width of each strip is reduced. This overlap must be included in the flow rate.
  • Technological reserve — for cutting along the contour, bypassing the columns, complex geometry and cut defects. Usually 5–10% of the area is laid.

The composite mesh is flexible, lightweight and cut with scissors or grinder, and is not cooked — therefore, the calculation does not include corrections for welded joints or corrosion losses characteristic of metal. The fabric is dielectric, does not form cold bridges and does not rust, which simplifies the cutting: any strip can be cut in place.

Basic calculation formula

For reinforcement of planes (screed, floor, platform, track, blind area), the consumption is calculated as follows:

Grid area = S base × K overlap × K margin

  • S base — area in m² (length × width).
  • K overlap — coefficient of strip overlap. When one cell overlaps, it is convenient to take it within ≈1.05-1.10, depending on the size of the cell and the width of the map.
  • K stock — coefficient for trimming, usually 1.05-1.10.

Further, the resulting area is divided by the area of one card (for cards) or the length of the base is divided by the useful width of the roll (for a rolled web) to obtain the number of delivery units.

Number of cards and rolls

  • Êîððåêòîðû: Number of cards = Grid area ÷ (map length × map width). The result is rounded up to the integer.
  • Rolls Number of strips = width of the base ÷ useful width of the strip (roll width minus overlap). The length of the web on all strips is compared with the length of the roll and rounded up.

Example 1: screed calculation

Let's say you need to reinforce the screed in a room of 5 × 8 m with a composite SSC reinforcement mesh with a cell of 100×100 mm.

  • Foot print: 5 × 8 = 40 m².
  • Overlap: we take K = 1.10 → 40 × 1.10 = 44 m².
  • Cutting margin: K = 1.05 → 44 × 1.05 ≈ 46.2 m².
  • Summary: to the purchase of ≈ 46–47 m² of canvas.

If you take cards 1×2 m (2 m² each), you will need 46.2 ÷ 2 ≈ 24 cards. If a roll of 1.35×50 m (67.5 m² per roll), one roll is enough with a margin — it is convenient to cut strips of 5 m along the premises directly on the site with scissors or a grinder.

Example 2: calculation for masonry

To reinforce the masonry of aerated concrete, the mesh is laid in horizontal seams through several rows. It is not the area of the wall that is considered, but the total length of the reinforced joints.

  • The perimeter walls. for example, 40 linear meters of joints per floor, if we reinforce every 3rd row — we summarize the length of all such joints.
  • Belt Width: a 0.36 or 0.5 m wide tape is suitable for a 0.3-0.4 m block.
  • Margin for joints: an overlap is laid at the joints of the tapes, so 5–10% is added to the total length.
  • Summary: 40 lm × 1.05 = 42 lm, → one roll of 50 m covers such a volume with a margin.

The masonry composite tape is tear-resistant (up to 50/50 kN/m for the corresponding grades), does not corrode in mortar and does not create cold bridges in the seam — while the flow rate is considered extremely simple, "by the meter of the seam".

Practical tips for calculating

  • Count the overlap in advance. The larger the cell and the wider the overlap, the more “eaten” the useful width — lay it in K overlap.
  • Round the units up. The number of cards and rolls is always rounded to the nearest whole.
  • Consider the geometry. For complex contours, bay windows and columns, increase the margin up to 10%.
  • Optimize the format. For long paths, a roll is more convenient (fewer joints), for small rooms — maps. Formats and stamps are selected in composite mesh section.
  • Cutting is possible, cooking is impossible. Composite is possible with scissors or grinder in place, which reduces waste compared to welded metal mesh.

ETIZ composite mesh complies with GOST 31938-2012 and serves as a durable replacement for metal welded mesh without corrosion. The price is calculated on request — based on the brand, cell and volume for your consumption calculation.

FAQs

How to calculate the consumption of composite mesh per m²?

Take the base area (length × width), multiply by the overlap factor (usually 1.05-1.10) and by the trim margin factor (1.05-1.10). Divide the resulting area by the area of one card or by the useful width of the roll to get the number of delivery units. The result is always rounded up to the whole, so that the canvas is enough, taking into account the overlap of the strips.

How much overlap to lay when calculating?

Adjacent strips of composite mesh are laid overlapping — usually on one cell. In the calculation of the flow rate, it is convenient to take into account a coefficient of the order of 1.05-1.10: the larger the cell and the wider the overlap, the more useful the strip width goes to the joint. The exact value of the overlap is determined by the design and type of structure — for critical areas, the floor slab is increased.

Which is more profitable for consumption — rolls or cards?

It depends on the geometry. For long paths, blind areas and roadways, rolls are more convenient: there are fewer joints and waste for trimming. For small rooms and local areas, fixed-format maps are more practical — they are easier to stack and count individually. Composite mesh is lightweight and flexible, so both options are easy to carry and cut in place with scissors or a grinder.

How to calculate the consumption of masonry mesh?

Masonry composite tape is considered not by the area of the wall, but by the total length of the reinforced joints. Fold the length of all the joints where the mesh is laid (for example, every third row), add 5–10% to the overlap of the tapes at the joints and compare with the length of the roll (50 m). The width of the tape (0.36; 0.5 or 1 m) is selected for the thickness of the block or brick.

Do I need a margin to trim the composite mesh?

Yes. The technological reserve of 5–10% is laid for cutting along the contour, bypassing the columns, complex geometry and cutting. The composite is cut with scissors or a grinder, so there is usually less waste than when working with metal welded mesh, but a margin is still needed. For simple rectangular bases, 5% is sufficient, for complex contours — up to 10%.

Does the composite mesh comply with GOST?

Yes, ETIZ composite meshes comply with GOST 31938-2012, which regulates polymer composite reinforcement and mesh. The material does not rust or corrode, is dielectric, does not form cold bridges and is lighter than metal welded mesh. This makes it a durable replacement for steel mesh in screeds, floors, walkways and masonry. The cost is calculated on request for a specific brand and volume.
