ETIZ composite mesh is a reinforcing web of glass composite rods Ø2–6 mm (brands SSK-2, SSK-3, SSK-5, SSK-6), fixed in a grid with a uniform pitch. Unlike rebars, this is a finished web that unfolds from a roll and fits in one step. The main parameter in the selection — Grid cell size: it determines how often the bars keep the concrete from cracking and under what load the reinforcement is designed.

What is mesh size and why is it important

The cell size is the distance between the axes (or in the light) of the adjacent web bars, expressed in millimeters: the entry "50×50" means a pitch of 50 mm in both directions. The smaller the cell, the denser the mesh "holds" the concrete layer and the more evenly the stresses are distributed over the area. The larger the cell, the more economical the material consumption and the easier it is to lay the fabric in thick monolithic structures.

Composite mesh does not rust or corrode, does not conduct current (dielectric), is lighter than steel welded mesh and does not form cold bridges. It is flexible — it is rolled up, cut with scissors or grinder (it is impossible to cook the composite). This allows you to select the canvas of the desired cell for a specific task and not overpay for excess metal.

Three basic composite mesh cell sizes

Cell 50×50 mm — screed and masonry

The smallest of the line. The frequent pitch of the rods creates a dense reinforcing base that works well in thin layers, where it is important to exclude local cracks. The 50×50 cell is used for reinforcing thin screeds, self-leveling floors of small thickness, as well as in conjunction with masonry tasks, where the maximum connectivity of the web is required. The small cell is convenient where the layer of concrete or mortar is small and each crack is visible.

Cell 100×100 mm — floors, paths, blind area

Universal "average" size and the most popular in private and commercial construction. The 100×100 cell is optimal in terms of strength, consumption and ease of installation. It is chosen for concrete floors, garden and pedestrian paths, blind areas around the house, platforms for canopies and light equipment. The web with such a cell distributes shrinkage and temperature stresses throughout the plane, reducing the risk of cracking.

Cell 200×200 mm — coarse concrete and large areas

The largest cell. The sparse pitch of the bars is rational where it is important to reinforce a large mass of concrete with a minimum mesh consumption: monolithic platforms, pavement, industrial slabs, bases for heavy structures. In thick layers, a large cell provides sufficient reinforcement with economical cutting and fast laying of large cards.

How to choose a grid cell size: step by step

  • Estimate the thickness of the layer. Thin layer (screed) — small cell 50×50; medium (floor, track) — 100×100; thick array — 200×200.
  • Consider the load. Pedestrian and household — 100×100 is enough; heavy machinery and large slabs — go to 200×200 with a Ø3 mm rod.
  • Correlate with the flow rate. A small cell is denser and more expensive in terms of footage; a large cell is more economical in large areas.
  • Select the diameter of the bar. SSK grades with a Ø2-6 mm rod are combined with different cells for the calculation task.
  • Select the delivery format. The canvas is in rolls and maps of standard formats (0.5×2, 0.5×15, 1×2, 1×15, 2×30, 1.35×50 m, etc.), the color is black or green.

It is convenient to choose a specific brand, cell and format for your object in the ETIZ composite mesh catalog: etiz.ru- composite meshes.

Delivery format and cutting

Composite mesh is supplied in rolls and in the form of maps. The cell 50×50, 100×100 or 200×200 is combined with different canvas formats — from narrow ribbons to wide 2×30 cards or 1.35×50 m rolls. Due to the flexibility, the canvas is easy to transport in a folded form, and the cutting is carried out on the spot with scissors or grinder without welding and special tools. Composite mesh complies with GOST 31938-2012 for polymer composite reinforcement and serves as a full-fledged replacement of metal (welded or stirrup) mesh — without corrosion, with less weight and without cold bridges. Bottom line: The grid cell size is not an abstract digit, but a working selection parameter. Small 50×50 — for thin and critical layers, medium 100×100 — a universal choice for floors and paths, large 200×200 — for large concrete massifs. Having determined the layer thickness and load, you will immediately narrow down the choice to one size. Full range — in eTHYZ Composite Mesh Catalogue.

FAQs

Which composite mesh cell size should I choose for screeding?

For thin screed and self-leveling floor, the smallest cell 50×50 mm is suitable. The frequent pitch of the bars creates a dense reinforcing base that holds the thin layer evenly and reduces the risk of local shrinkage cracks. For thicker floors, it is rational to switch to a 100×100 mm cell.

What is the difference between 50×50, 100×100 and 200×200 mm cells?

They differ in the pitch between the web bars. The cell 50×50 is the densest, for thin layers and masonry. 100×100 is universal, for floors, paths and blind areas. 200×200 is the largest and most economical, for large concrete arrays, platforms and roadway. The larger the cell, the lower the material consumption.

What kind of cell is needed for the concrete track and blind area?

For garden paths, pedestrian areas and paving around the house, a cell of 100×100 mm is optimal. This is a universal size: it gives a balance of strength, ease of installation and consumption, distributes shrinkage and temperature stresses throughout the plane and protects concrete from cracking under normal household loads.

Is it possible to replace metal welded mesh with composite mesh?

Yes. ETIZ composite mesh complies with GOST 31938-2012 and replaces metal welded mesh or netting. It does not rust or corrode, is lighter in weight, does not conduct current and does not form cold bridges. The canvas is flexible, rolled up, cut with scissors or a grinder; the composite cannot be cooked.

How does the size of the mesh affect the consumption and price of the mesh?

The smaller the cell, the more bars per square meter and the higher the material consumption per area. A large cell of 200×200 is more economical on large arrays. Therefore, the size is chosen according to the task: do not reinforce a thin layer and do not overpay on large sites. Please specify the exact cost for your format upon request.

What is the delivery format of ETHYZ composite mesh?

The mesh is supplied in rolls and cards of standard formats — 0.5×2, 0.5×15, 1×2, 1×15, 2×30, 1.35×50 m and others, the color is black or green. SSK bars come with a diameter of Ø2–6 mm and are combined with 50×50, 100×100 and 200×200 mm cells. You can choose the right option in the catalog of composite grids on the site.
